Visual Arts

In our school's Visual Arts program, we don't just "do" projects, but also cover art history, various artistic techniques working with different media, and much more.

1st - 5th Grades

Students are introduced to the elements of art:
  • color
  • line
  • shape
  • value
  • texture
  • form
We also introduce the students to art history through the "Great Names in Art", such as van Gogh, Monet, Klimt, Kandinsky, O'Keefe, Picasso, and several others. Even at a 1st Grade level, the students can learn a little about an artist and then try to recreate the artist's style.

Any one that walks the halls at our Plasman Campus will see lots of projects lining the walls. We try to display there every single project that the students have made. This can be very time consuming, but it is worth it when the kids get excited to see their creations hanging up for others to enjoy!

6th - 12th Grades

6th Grade -  Basic exploring of different mediums, how-to techniques, what value means, and touch on a few basics of the elements of art.

7th & 8th Grades - Go deeper into the elements of art. We do a variety of media, including some 3D projects.

9th -12th Grade - Incorporate some art history in with projects by referring to an artist and/or history of how the "name" was established for that type of artwork (abstract, surrealism, etc.). We work in a variety of media (pencil, pastels watercolor, acrylic, wire clay, charcoal...), and stress creativity. We also do our own Calvary Art Prize twice a year at the Laketown Campus, displaying the top 3 voted in the community.
